The first artist album release on Get Physical sub-label, Kindish, is Ben Hoo ‘Collected’, a compilation of some of Hoo’s best work to date alongside new material. What caught our attention about this release was title track ‘Collected’, a contemporary classical piece composed entirely of sounds, themes and melodies from each of the other tracks on the album. Beautiful, original and interesting. The track has an epic cinematic quality and has been the inspiration for a short film which you can watch here. The rest of the tracks on the album showcase Hoo’s extensive musical ability, diversity and creative flair and range from techno to deep to tech house. It’s a really solid album with no fillers just track after track that stands out for its own sound. Our favorites are ‘Night Light’ which combines tribal and minimal textures, ‘Modal’ an infectious and energetic track which has previously been released on EP, ‘Nightscape’ for a nice booty shakin’ rhythm and deep vibe and ‘The Right Kind of Rain’ an experimental track packed with interesting sound design and a catchy glitchy tune.
Having already created a stir with remixes for M.A.N.D.Y., Booka Shade and Tiga this album will put Hoo on the map as one of the hottest emerging talents in electronic music. It’s the kind of release we’ll be playing a lot when we’re travelling and need something to get stuck into and explore. A very sophisticated release for the young artist from the UK and we look forward to seeing where he goes from this.
